For over 40 years Rebecca Jessen, ASID, has been committed to creating home environments that are not only timeless and beautiful, but also perfectly suited to her client’s needs.  

Rebecca’s interior design career began after she graduated with honors from Pennsylvania State University.  Rebecca has worked with several prominent design firms on both the East & West Coast prior to joining Nettle Creek Interiors in 1992.  After 21 years at Nettle Creek, she purchased the Company in 2013. She provides full service interior design, space planning. Specifying furniture, window treatments & accessories.

Tresa Pugmire

Past President & Communications Co-chair

Tresa is the Director of Marketing at McKinney Capital. McKinney is a commercial real estate brokerage and investment firm that finds creative ways for business leaders to save money and creates value from one of their largest expenses – real estate. Tresa manages the marketing department which markets properties for sale, lease, and purchase all over the country. Her specialties include target marketing, strategic planning, market positioning, and company operations. Tresa graduated from the University of San Diego with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Marketing.

Leslie Hovey

Secretary

Ms. Hovey is Vice President – Senior Legal Counsel at AT&T, specializing in corporate real estate transactions.  She has been with AT&T and Cricket Communications (purchased by AT&T in 2014) since 2007.  Prior to joining Cricket, Ms. Hovey was the owner of Hovey & Associates, a law firm representing real estate owners, managers and developers respecting purchase and sale, leasing and financing of commercial office, retail and industrial property, and compliance with Department of Real Estate Regulations.  Previously, she was a partner at Hovey & Kirby, where she handled all aspects of complex real estate sale and financing transactions, and lease negotiations. Before joining Hovey & Kirby, Ms. Hovey was an attorney at Latham & Watkins. Ms. Hovey was admitted to the California Bar Association in 1988 after completing a one year position as a Judicial Law Clerk for the United States District Court, Southern District (Honorable Judith N. Keep).  Ms. Hovey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, San Diego. She received her Juris Doctor from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. While in law school, Ms. Hovey interned for the California Supreme Court (Justice Malcolm Lucas).

Caroline Roughneen

Caroline Roughneen is a Senior Fund Accountant at a fund of funds in La Jolla. CoastEdge Partners, LLC is a registered investment advisory firm created to deliver the alignment, tailored service, and access to investments our principals seek as high net worth investors. Catering predominately to wealthy families and private foundations, we work together to navigate their financial journey and build a confident future. 

Caroline graduated from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. In her spare time, she enjoys painting/resin art, creative writing, stand-up comedy, glamping, and going to the beach. The east coast transplant currently lives in Coronado with her cat, Leonardo “Leo” DiCatrio.

Candace Berkman, CLTC is a Financial Advisor and Long Term Care Specialist with the Northwestern Mutual since 1998. The mission of Northwestern Mutual is to develop enduring relationships with clients by providing expert guidance for a lifetime of financial security. Candace works with clients to identify their definitions of financial security and then focuses on solutions that can help make those financial goals a reality. She helps find the right solutions for personal, family or business needs. Candace attended the University of Southern California and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Speech Communication, she has been honored with the Life Impact Award from Northwestern – The Tribute to Women in the Industry Award from the YMCA and Woman Who Mean Business Award from the San Diego Business Journal.

Marnie Baird

Communications Co-Chair

Marnie Baird, CFP® is a financial planner with local firm American Money Management. She enjoys assisting those nearing retirement with their financial planning as well as helping younger generations understand the importance of planning early for financial goals, including retirement. She joined WiB in early 2019 and joined the board as Member at Large in 2021. She spends her free time volunteering for organizations close to her heart, including the San Diego Natural History Museum’s Canyoneer program and the Native Plant Society’s Habitat Restoration crew.

Brenda-Lee Smith

Casual Connection Co-Chair

Brenda-Lee Smith empowers the seniors of San Diego by providing personalized choices in home placement through Oasis Senior Advisors. Utilizing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with a specialty in mental health care, and an extensive professional networking system, BrendaLee finds the right solutions for sustainable support as care needs evolve. Whether independent or assisted living arrangements are needed, or memory or residential care, her personal relationship with those she serves facilitates life transitions with respect and dignity.

Skilled in creative problem solving, she understands what it takes for client satisfaction, using her expertise in intuition and communication to streamline this important process. A confident public speaker, Brenda-Lee shares her knowledge as a compassionate, informative leader in the senior care placement industry.

Brenda-Lee is a member of several local and national organizations, including the Society of Certified Senior Advisors, San Diego County Council on Aging, Golden Age Interactive Network, Estate Planning Group Network, and the San Diego Dementia Consortium.

Patti Peterson

Casual Connection Co-Chair

Patti Peterson is a Business Development Manager for Almac Clinical Services where she has been employed for 13 years.  Almac is a Global Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) the provides packaging, labelling and distribution for clinical trials.  In her role Patti engages with Pharmaceutical companies, Biotechs and CROs in Southern California and Colorado to assist with their clinical trial requirements. 

Patti is Canadian and lived in Northern Ireland for 14 years until she moved to California in 2017.  Patti is Mom to fur baby Rosco, volunteers with Helen Woodward Animal Centre and enjoys hiking, yoga, wine tasting and travel.

Kristin Diggs

Kristen serves as the Chief Human Resources Officer at San Diego Youth Services (SDYS), a non-profit providing services and shelter for homeless and vulnerable youth in San Diego County. She is responsible for leading the overall SDYS HR strategy including DEI, employee relations, recruitment & retention, compensation and cultural development. She graduated with a B.S Degree in Psychology from Towson University in Baltimore, MD and is a Senior Certified Professional with the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM-SCP).

Kristen relocated to San Diego from Annapolis MD in early 2022, and brings over 25 years of HR experience, including 16 years in the non-profit space.

She is currently the Vice President of Communications for San Diego Society for Human Resources Management, and in the LEAD San Diego Advance class.  She loves spending her time networking and connecting with other business professionals in San Diego!

Reyhan Ayhan graduated with a degree in Information Technology from Marist College with professional experience in data analytics and sales engineering. She’s recently transitioned into a career as a Creative Business Coach for new entrepreneurs and creatives.

Elizabeth Thompson

Member at Large

Elizabeth is the Sr. Director, Clinical Content Development for American Specialty Health.  In this role she oversees all clinical content development and management for 6 websites and 4 apps.  Her team includes clinicians and lay writers and editors as well as a technical team that publishes content onto the Content Management System (CMS).  Elizabeth is a Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist with a Master’s Degree in Public Health Education. 

Elizabeth has been with WIB-San Diego for over 3 years and enjoys the comradery and collaboration to have fun and do good things.  In addition to this work, Elizabeth is an avid hiker who has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu, and the Grand Canyon rim to rim.  She loves to cook good food and she is married with 4 step children and 2 grandchildren.
